If you want to make yourself more attractive to a potential partner, it’s time to turn to your wardrobe.
A new experiment has shown it’s easy enough to turn heads… if you’re wearing red.
Chris de Burgh was definitely onto something, as it appears a lady in red is more attractive to men. The effect was even stronger for men who thought the woman was already attractive.
The City University of New York study found that wearing red appeared to make the woman more attractive, even if they were just carrying a red accessory.
Steven G Young, the lead author of the study of the City University of New York wrote in the European Journal of Social Psychology:
‘Recent evidence suggests that colouration may serve a purpose in human mating, as female sexual excitement is associated with reddening of the cheeks, neck, and chest.
‘Women are more likely to wear red than other colours when they anticipate meeting attractive, but not unattractive, men. Heterosexual men are sensitive to red colouration on women. Compared with a range of other colours, women viewed on red backgrounds or wearing red clothing are found more attractive.
‘Even when women are viewed merely carrying red objects (e.g., laptop computers), they are found more attractive than when holding comparable objects in different colours.’
Before you start planning a mass seduction, the study found that the test was strongest in men who had rated the face of the person as attractive before they wore red.
Perfect excuse for a shopping spree… as if we needed one.
