Move over Manolo, see Choo later Jimmy… everyone who’s anyone in the fashion world now owns or wants Sophia Webster shoes.
One of Britain’s hottest emerging talents showcased her Autumn/Winter 2014 wares this week, and there wasn’t an ounce of practicality in sight.
Sophia Webster is fast making a name for herself, and her London Fashion Week show over the weekend has cemented her place in the ‘one-to-watch’ category. Since she debuted her collection at LFW spring/summer 2013, (after working as design assistant to Nicholas Kirkwood), those in the know have been queueing up to sport her designs.
For her show on Sunday, Webster turned a Covent Garden pop-up into Barbie’s Dream House meet Clueless in a setting named Heartbreak Hotel. Fluff, fux, glitter sequins and excess in all areas was the order of the day, and the whole show just screamed fun.
The shoes themselves boasted prints, candy colours and garish adornments. Those of us looking for an ‘investment’ pair of shoes that will never date and will go with anything will have to look elsewhere, but if variety is the spice of life then surely there’s room for something so cute and kitsch too?
