Ever since Greenpeace released their Toxic Threads report back in December, retailers guilty of committing their sartorial sins had to revaluate their potentially harmful manufacturing processes and the majority of retailers named and shamed took immediate action – except one.
Defiant and showing a complete lack of care for their customers well-being, the underwear giant Victoria’s Secret were named as a “Detox Villain” meaning the company had “little or no policy or program for chemicals management, and no commitment to zero discharges.”
The report also found that the company’s underwear contained hormone-disrupting phthalates and although Greenpeace can’t prove that they are harmful to those who wear them, they proved that the chemicals released into the environment during their manufacturing were harmful to the environment and nearby communities.

Oops! The underwear giant had been following bad manufacturing processes
But, Victoria’s Secret is now following in Zara and Levi’s footsteps and is committed to going toxic-free. Limited Brands, their parent company will now work with Greenpeace and Sam Fried, Executive Vice President for Law, Policy and Governance at Limited Brands said “Limited Brands considers clean water as a critical global issue, and is proud to join Greenpeace in its campaign to eliminate hazardous chemical use”.
Here’s hoping all the brands listed in the report now follow suit.
