Lingerie brand La Perla have come under strong criticism after using emaciated dummies in their shop windows to showcase their underwear.

The uproar came following a tweet from a passer-by who was walking past their SoHo boutique in New York, when he spotted the unhealthily thin mannequin in the window.

Shocked by the window display, Michael Rudoy posted a snap on Twitter that started an online backlash at the store’s move:

The lingerie company have since removed the mannequin from the store window, issuing a statement:

“The mannequin photographed has been removed from the store and will not be used again by any La Perla boutique.

“We are in the process of redesigning all La Perla stores with a new concept image and the mannequins that are currently displayed in our US stores will no longer be used. We appreciate and value everyone’s comments, thank you for bringing this to our attention.”

It is reported the removed mannequin had a smaller waistline than a UK size 6.
