For any aspiring young designer, seeing one of your designs come to life on the red carpet at the Oscar’s is a dream come true, especially if you’ve yet to become a household name.
But, for one lucky Kildare couturier, her dreams are becoming a reality in less than a month’s time.
Designer Laura Jayne Halton has been picked by Oscar nominee Fodhla Cronin O’Reilly to make her red carpet creation for the awards ceremony taking place next month in LA and naturally is “ecstatic” to be given the opportunity.
The talented designer and illustrator is no stranger to Hollywood herself and has previously produced illustrations for Sarah Jessica Parker’s perfume campaigns and has also been named as ‘One To Watch’ by Image magazine.

Speaking to Irish Examiner, Halton wouldn’t divulge too many details about the design but hints that it will be inspired by the design on classic cars, something she and her father both love. “He just loves his Ford Escort Mark II,” says Laura Jayne. “We also have two classic VW Beatles and a Triumph Spitfire.”
Producer Fodhla Cronin O’Reilly, 26, from Cromane in west Kerry has been nominated for Best Animated Short, for Head Over Heels, a ten-minute tale of a husband and wife who have grown apart – she lives on the ceiling and he lives on the floor. The film was initially made as a project while Fodhla was still studying at the National School of Film and Television in England and was directed by former classmate Tim Reckhart who is now based in New York.
We can’t wait to see what she Laura Jayne produces and hope it makes centre stage on the night!
