If we’ve learned anything from our newfound Nashville obsession, it’s that country music stars don’t do anything by half measures.
So, when awards season comes rolling around you can expect to see them out in force with high heels and sparkling handbags.
On Sunday night, the cowboys and cowgirls converged at the AT&T Stadium in Texas for the 50th ACM Awards.
Luke Bryan and Blake Shelton co-hosted proceedings, with Shelton’s wife Miranda Lambert amongst the performers being honoured on the night.
Hollywood A-Listers Reese Witherspoon and Sofia Vergara posed together on the red carpet, as they kick off the press tour for their new film Hot Pursuit.
One of the most emotional moments of the night, however, belonged to Taylor Swift. The 25-year-old star accepted one of the biggest honours of her career to date, the Milestone Award, from her mother Andrea Gardner.
The award comes less than a week after Taylor told fans her mother had been diagnosed with cancer. Swift chose not to walk the red carpet last night, but arrived on stage after a heartwarming introduction from her mother. Andrea said: “Like many of you with children of your own, I am a very proud mom. So I would like to thank the ACMs for recognizing her in this way and the entire music community for taking such good care of her.”
Andrea went on: “I’ve watched this milestone artist from the time she was a tangle-haired little girl growing up on our farm filled with creativity, until now preparing for her world tour. Her favourite thing is to write a song, tell a story and play a guitar or piano.
“There was the time she was 17, her dad and I strongly disapproved of a certain young man and rightfully so. She was mad, real mad, and she went to her room and closed the door. She came back about an hour later with a song called Love Story.”
