If the Shoe Fits… Manolo Blahnik Makes London Fashion Week Debut

"Manolo Blahnik's shoes are as good as sex ... and they last longer."

He’s seventy years of age and one of the most respected and admired men in the business, but it took until 2013 for legendary footwear designer Manolo Blahnik to make his London Fashion Week debut.

The Spanish shoemaker, who came to global attention thanks to Carrie Bradshaw’s obsession with his work in TV series Sex and the City, showed his latest collection in the English capital on Sunday, through a film created by Michael Roberts.

Speaking to Vogue, Blahnik explained why it had taken him so long to claim his rightful place in the lineup, saying; “I owed it to the organisers, I had been invited to take part so many times but it never felt right. London Fashion Week has changed so much recently though; it is so professional now and I really think it is one of the most exciting in the world. Also, everything is becoming so transparent with all this technology, with the blogs and tweets, and I wanted to get more in touch with normal people.”
