Buying less of better quality is the mantra we try to live by and thanks to the Irish Craft Council’s new website, it’s never been easier to support quality Irish craft and design at Christmas.

But, what does this mean for Irish retailers? Can buying Irish at Christmas really make a difference?

Chief Executive of the Crafts Council of Ireland Karen Hennessy thinks so and says that by choosing Irish craft you won’t just be giving a loved one a one of a kind gift, you’ll be helping to sustain thousands of Irish jobs. “There are over 5,700 people working in craft in Ireland so this Christmas we are asking everyone to make considered purchases when shopping for gifts.  The Crafts Council of Ireland is committed to developing and supporting the Irish craft sector which contributes almost half a billion euros to the Irish economy.”

So what kind of gifts are on offer? From bang-on-trend jewellery to cute home accessories, the new website  showcases a range of gift suggestions from over 400 designers and craft makers and prices range from as little as €10 to €100 or more so there’s something for every budget.

Although the products can’t be purchased online, the website gives full stockist details of shops and craft studios as well as a comprehensive guide to bigger retailers like The Kilkenny Group and Arnotts who are supporting the initiative.
