(First) Lady In Red -Michelle Obama Wows The Crowds In A Jason Wu Creation

If we ever needed more proof that Michelle knows how to score major style points, last night was it.

The FLOTUS really is on a fashion roll at the moment.

Not only did she debut a super stylish and bang-on-trend fringe last week, she knocked it out of the park yet again last night at the Inagural Ball in Washington DC in a stunning custom-made Jason Wu creation.

At last night’s Inaugural Ball in Washington DC

So who is Jason Wu? Four years ago, the little known New York designer was struggling to get his brand off the ground. But, when Michelle Obama emerged on stage to dance with her husband at his first Inaugural Ball, Beyoncé belting out the Etta James classic At Last in the background in one of his designs – a white, one-shouldered organza embellished gown – the fashion world sat up, took note and decided they wanted in on the action. A style star was born.

Fast forward four years and Wu is now the name on everyone’s lips come fashion week and award season and picks only the crème de la crème of runway and screen to debut his stunning designs and Michelle is a firm fan – she’s opted to wear his designs at other career defining First Lady moments including her first Vogue cover shoot and on a visit to meet the Queen. If Anna approves, you know you’re in.

But, back to last night. Michelle’s accessorised her custom made velvet and chiffon creation with Jimmy Choo heels and added some extra sparkle with bangles and a ring by jeweller Kimberley McDonald and of course her most on-trend accessory of them all – her new First Lady fringe.

We have a bit of a thing for Wu ourselves and only wish we had something equally fabulous to attend… and the cash to buy one of the designers to-die-for dresses of course.
