London’s Oxford Street had a surprise visitor last night as singer Rihanna arrived at River Island’s flagship store to host an exclusive shopping event launching her A/W ‘13 collection.
The fan event showcased the latest Rihanna for River Island range designed by the star two days ahead of its global launch in stores around the UK and in Ireland.
For one night only, the new flagship store on Oxford Street was transformed into ‘Club RiRi’, an exclusive pop-up club where Rihanna arrived wearing clothes from the collection and was greeted by a sea of fans and photographers eagerly waiting outside the venue.
Once inside, the singer posed with models wearing outfits from the collection, paired with a new mullet-style hairdo and unusual blue lippie.
Her fashions are not to everyone’s tastes, it must be said, but some of her fans won quite the opportunity last night. Five of Rihanna’s fashion followers were styled exclusively by Rihanna herself, with the star selecting key pieces from the range for each fan to wear on the night.

One star struck winner Kadesha Springer, from London, said ‘It was crazy, just the best experience. Rihanna knows her stuff – she knew exactly what she was doing. I love the new collection and especially the clothes I’ve got on’
Rihanna commented: ‘This collection is definitely really special to me. I think I got a lot of freedom and I got to put a lot more of myself into it. I had so much fun designing it for Summer/Spring that Autumn was just – it was just balls out. We had fun and just went for it and did things we didn’t get to do before, and that’s why I’m excited. That’s what’s special about it – it’s different, it’s fresh.’
The autumn collection goes on sale on 12th September and consists of the sportier elements of the collection, whilst the winter collection out in November consists of the more glamorous elements of the range, just in time for the party season. Both ranges will be sold in selected River Island stores globally and online.
