The Irish winter is upon us which means we have taken to wearing multiple layers and drinking even more tea than usual.
Never mind that though it’s New York Fashion Week and the style is only gorgeous.
If you’re a bit of a divil with the old credit card, it might be time to look away. There are so many amazing looks from the spring ’14 collections and it’s possible you may want every single item.
Here are a few of the trends you can expect to see translated on the high street next season…
Feminine Elegance
Flowing fabrics, fluid lines and muted colours are set to rule next season. Lace trimmed slips and dresses were seen at Thakoon along with the prettiest pearl strap miniature handbags. Fashion editors from across the globe raved about these babies on Instagram after the show, so you’re sure to see more than one high street imitation next year. Wes Gordon also showed an elegant luxe collection, metallic shades added a modern edge to a minimal palette. We are so on board with this grown up ladylike look…
Sporty Chic
A number of designers took inspiration from the sports luxe trend but freshened things up with a feminine touch. Sweaters, anoraks and skater skirts in bright colours were big news at DKNY, staged on an urban set the collection has a modern and fashion forward feel. Lacoste too concentrated on luxurious sporty chic, it has evolved from the polo shirt and there are some gorgeous pieces in this collection.
Geometric
Victoria Beckham’s new collection has been well received by critics and it’s easy to see why. Shape is the main focus of this collection, tailored blazers are paired with boyish shorts and geometric patterns feature strongly. The sporty influence can also be seen here through the boxy cuts and sharp collars. The line is entirely wearable and we can see the high street taking inspiration from the collection for next season’s designs.
Prints
Prints aren’t going anywhere. This is good news actually, how boring would our wardrobes be without pattern? Diane Von Furstenberg, or DVF, never disappoints and her spring ’14 collection is swoon worthy. Safari and tribal inspired pieces are offset by monochrome patterned dresses and tropical prints. Also, the bright blue maxi… oh my gorgeous.
So there you have it, spring season fashion sorted. Oh and before you start grumbling about your lack of fashion funds, we did warn you…
