We thought dropping the ‘Yves’ was the most controversial thing Heidi Slimane could possibly do to the iconic brand, but it seems Saint Laurent’s lead designer has taken his love of 90s grunge to a whole new level, and has cast one of the decades most controversial cover girls – Courtney Love – in his latest campaign.
Yes, you read that right. The poster girl of grunge has been shot in a series of ads by Slimane himself and to say we’re not that impressed is a teeny bit of an understatement.
Slimane is well known for his love of rock stars and has worked with Mick Jagger, David Bowie and The Kills in the past, but it seems his latest campaign is a homage to Courtney and Kurt, so who better to front it than the woman herself.
We shouldn’t really be that surprised – back in March after his Paris show, Love took to Twitter and Facebook to express her love and admiration for the new Saint Laurent collection and it seems Slimane sat up and listened… and maybe the flattery has gone to his head.

Courtney in the latest Saint Laurent campaign
“No offense to MJ [Marc Jacobs] but he never got it right,” she posted on Facebook. “This is what it really was. Hedi knows his s**t. He got it accurate, and MJ and Anna [Sui] did not.”
She also commented that she was “having ‘gasms at the idea of rich ladies buying what we used to wear, finally someone got the actual look exact, no beanies.”
But Saint Laurent isn’t the only brand Courtney Love is lending her name and face to – the Hole frontwoman is also starring in a series of ads for electronic cigarette company NJOY.
Appearing to have a cheeky fag in the lobby of a fancy hotel, Love is approched by a rather hauty member of a royal family (we think…) and is told that she can’t smoke inside, to which she snarls “Relax, it’s a f*cking NJOY”.
We get that it’s supposed to be really cool and cutting edge and everything, but it just seems a bit teenage try-hard to us…
