The Best Films That Have Come From Television Shows

Television shows are increasingly being used as inspiration for films. We decided to have a look at what we reckon are the best big screen adaptations.

Actor Kiefer Sutherland has just confirmed that work will begin on the film version of 24 next summer.

To celebrate this announcement, we take a look back at the best films that have arisen out of television shows.

Batman Begins – So there have been a lot of film versions of this comic book turned television programme turned film but the latest by Christopher Nolan, which has now reached its conclusion, is undoubtedly the most successful. Plus it helps that Christian Bale is in it.

Sex and the City We’re just going to pass over the second film as if it was never made but you have to admit that the first did mark a welcome return for Carrie and the other girls. Bigger screen, better fashion and hotter men: what’s not to love?

The Inbetweeners Movie The creators of this comedy definitely made the right decision when it came to the big screen film. In fact the film might even be better than the television series. For that we take our hats off to the ‘Pussay Patrol.’

Charlie’s Angels Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu brought Charlie’s Angels into the 21st century. Again, like Sex and the City, the first film was good enough and then it all sort of went downhill. But still, women that kick butt are worth a mention.

The Adventures of Tin Tin Now this was a television series that seriously benefited from modern technology for the film version. The plot was good, the 3-D graphics were brilliant and Snowy was as cute as ever.

The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! This is the first film of a trilogy based on the show Police Squad. From mocking other films to being just plain ridiculous, these films have gained a cult-like following and quite rightly so!
