This is shocking.

An eBay post received a lot of attention and concern after a woman reportedly tried to sell her baby on the site.

The mother posted photos of her baby on eBay along with the asking price of €5000.

According to Cosmo the description read: ‘Child, 40 days old named Maria for sale’

Baby Maria was reportedly born in the German city of Duisburg.

eBay users began expressing their concern for the child almost immediately after it was posted.  It was reported to the site and was taken down within half and hour.

Spokesperson for eBay, Pierre Du Bois, said that police were informed of the advert after a volume of complaints from customers.

Police have confirmed that the matter is being investigated and that the parents are being described as “refugees”. The parents have been taking in for questioning on suspicion of human trafficking following a raid of their apartment where authorities gathered potentially incriminating evidence from their internet history.
