We knew that we were in for some bitterly cold conditions this week but Met Éireann has now said that the wintry showers could bring “up to 3cm” of snow.
The forecaster has issued a status yellow weather warning for all areas, stating that wintry showers could lead to snow accumulations of up to 3cm.
More frequent showers are expected in the north and west, particularly over higher ground. The warning is in effect from 6.00am this morning (Wednesday) until 11.00pm on Thursday night.
Strong to gale force winds will also hit the country today and there is a risk of thunder. Tonight, frost and ice will develop in parts with lowest temperatures between -1 and +2 degrees Celsius.
Tomorrow will be cold and windy with a mixture of sunny spells and wintry showers. Highest temperatures will be around 4 to 7 degrees.
