Two More Alton Towers Rides Shut Down Just Minutes After Park Reopened

The news comes nine days after The Smiler collision

Two rides at Alton Towers were shut down today just minutes after the park reopened following last week’s collision.

Alton Towers bosses made the decision to shut down the rides Air and Runaway Mine Train mere minutes after the Staffordshire park was reopened this week.

Smiler

The decision was made just one day after parents and children were evacuated from a newly opened ride in the Cbeebies area of the park, and nine days after the roller coaster collision that resulted in a teenage girl having her leg amputated.

The news comes amid reports that a visitor found a large metal clip near the Air track.

A spokesperson from Alton Towers said: “Alton Towers puts the health and safety of its guests at the forefront of everything it does, which means that from time to time rides will be closed to allow for technical issues to be reviewed.

“We will not operate a ride if there is any suggestion of a safety compromise.”

Both rides have reportedly been reopened and are fully operational once again.
