Temperatures have dropped considerably in recent days and if reports are to be believed, it’s about to get even colder.
Yesterday evening, it was just 3 degrees Celsius in some parts of the country and according to Met Éireann’s latest update, it could drop to below -1 tonight.
As you’ll see from the graph below, temperatures took a nosedive last night owing to a cold front moving through…we’re freezing just looking at this.

This cold snap means “a widespread frost” will occur across Ireland too and commuters should be extra-vigilant due to the change in conditions.
Today is set to be a “cold day” with the “risk of thunder and hail more isolated in the east”.
It’s set to get colder again tonight though and the latest update from our national forecaster is as follows:
“Tonight will be dry apart from a few showers along west coasts at first. There will be good clear spells but cloud will gradually increase in the west towards morning with some patchy rain or drizzle there. It will be cold with lowest temperatures falling to between -1 and +2 degrees with a widespread frost, but along western coastal fringes lowest temperatures will stay around 3 or 4 degrees”.
Early indications suggest that the frost will continue at night for the rest of the week and overall, it will be cool and bright.
We would advise checking in with Met Éireann regularly for further updates.
