A ten-year old from Culahill in Co. Laois has been hailed a hero after saving his sister from abduction by a convicted sex offender.
According to reports, the incident happened on Wednesday afternoon when the man tried to get three siblings to get into his van.
When they refused, he got out and picked up the 12-year-old girl and put her into the back seat.
Her brother then jumped on the roof of the jeep and made as much as noise as possible to attract attention from passers-by.
The man was distracted allowing the girl to escape before the three children made their way home to their father.
After several sightings, Gardai managed to located the individual in Kilkenny and brought him to Portlaoise station for questioning.
He is currently on bail for a robbery and it is thought that Gardai wish to speak him in relation to several other robberies.
Although he is a convicted sex offender, his name isn’t registered on the sex offenders list as the offence happened in the 1990s.
