A 20-year-old former student of Georgia Southern has been in jail for the past six months for making a joke on Tumblr that he was planning a shooting his school.
Caleb Clemmons is a former psychology major at Georgia Southern. This was his Tumblr post:
“hello. my name is irenigg and i plan on shooting up georgia southern. pass this around to see the affect it has. to see if i get arrested.”
In a few hours, the police had him tracked down and had him arrested.
Clemmons told them that his Tumblr post was “an experimental literary piece and an art project,” but is still being charged with making terroristic threats which can be punishable by up to five years behind bars.
According to Chief Michael Russell, director of Public Safety in the school, authorities searched Clemmons’ residence and found no weapons or any signs of a plan or plot to attack the area.
His bond is set at $20,000 which is more than his family can afford.
They’re currently trying to raise money to hire representation for him.
“Caleb Clemmons is not a terrorist” his family emphasised on his blog.
“His post should have clearly dismantled any potential fear or concern that could have be arisen from its read considering he identified himself as his blog URL and peacefully and non-agonizingly addressed arrested in the post.”
He goes on trial in a few days.
