Gardaí are this year taking part in a 24-hour speed enforcement that is taking place around Europe.
The initiative kicked off at 6am this morning (Thursday) and will continue through until 6am on Friday morning.
Twenty two countries across Europe are taking part in the initiative and the European Traffic Police Network (TISPOL) have asked police forces to publish the precise locations of speed checkpoints in advance, because they say they want to get into the heads of drivers, not their purses.
Last year, there were 196 people killed on Irish roads, while 47 people have lost their lives to date in 2015.
Gardaí will be keeping the public informed on the initiative through their Twitter account and people are being asked to join the conversation with the hashtag #TISPOLOpSpeed.
