Despite there being three deaths and nine stabbings at last weekend’s Swedish House Mafia concert in the Phoenix Park, promoters will still continue to host gigs there.
The Irish Sun reports that the victims of the stabbings at the concert recalled their horrific experience yesterday, while politicians insisted that music events will continue to be held in the park for the foreseeable future.
According to reports, more than 40 people had to be treated in hospital after the mayhem of the Swedish House Mafia concert last Saturday night.
“It could have been worse, like some of the other people who died. You don’t need it, all we were trying to do was go to a concert and enjoy ourselves,” one man recovering in hospital said, speaking to the Irish Sun.
The Taoiseach has since described the scenes at the Phoenix Park as being “absolutely disgraceful, appalling and simply scandalous.” And speaking about the pictures and videos of the event which have emerged on the internet over the past few days he said: “The video pictures are absolutely disgraceful.”
Yesterday, the Assistant Garda Commissioner, John Twomey, held talks with representatives from concert promoter MCD as a report is prepared for the Government over the causes and the garda response to the incident.
The three day music event in the Phoenix Park was supposed to be a scaled-down version of the larger Oxegen music festival which is held every year in Punchestown Racetrack in Kildare.
However, despite the fact that three people lost their lives and nine others were brutally stabbed, Junior Minister Brian Hayes has said that more gigs will get the green light for Phoenix Park.
“I think it’s a simplistic view (not to hold shows there),” he said.
“I wouldn’t preclude the opportunity of other concerts emerging there in the future,” he added.
