One thing that we’re always told as responsible adults is that we need to start planning for the future… although we hadn’t planned this far ahead!
While we’re still getting to grips with that well-overdue pension, one Limerick community is taking a more long-term view and urging residents to start paying for their spot in the graveyard.
According to the Irish Examiner, Kildimo Community Council decided to roll out the initiative as a way of paying for an extension to the local cemetery and have teamed up with the local credit union to allow people to secure a plot by paying €8 a week.
The burial spaces cost €750 each and Council chairman Roger McLoughlin told the paper that the new scheme will make buying a plot more affordable for people.
“Young people don’t want to hear about it now but in 30 years’ time, there’ll be nothing left if they don’t take action,” said Vice-Chairman Tommy O’Shea.
The spaces have now been opened up to people outside the parish so if you want to take care of your after-life needs for the bargain price of €8, you know where to go!
