Former Olympic Council of Ireland President Pat Hickey has been released from prison.
Two weeks ago, Hickey was arrested at his hotel in Barra da Tijuca and was questioned at a local police station over his involvement in the irregular sale of Olympic tickets.
It was reported that Hickey was arrested because he refused to investigate the scandal over 1,000 tickets sold by scalpers.
Pat Hickey was held in prison in Rio since August 17, over the selling of tickets to the Olympics at much higher prices.

According to RTÉ, Pat Hickey gave a statement saying
“I have been released from the police detention system. I will now stay in Rio and my lawyers will proceed to have the charges laid against me set aside as there is no substantive proof of any wrongdoing on my part.
“I would like to thank the prison authorities for their kindness they have shown to me. Due to my medical condition, I will be making no further statements.”
