An ER Nurse in Orange County was left inconsolable when she realised the patient she was treating was her brother.

Cesar Andreas “Andy” Medina died after he was struck while skateboarding through a cross roads in Laguna Niguel, California, on Friday, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement.

Cesar reportedly had the right of way at the time of the accident. The driver of the vehicle sped off prompting a manhunt by investigators.

The 23-year-old was rushed to Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center, where his sister Jenifer is a nurse.

Jenifer Medina told NBC LA she was working on a number of different patients when she heard a man had been admitted in critical condition.

The man was first admitted under the name John Doe. Jenifer was asked to identify the patient by his wallet and it was then the realization began to sit in.

“When I saw the wallet it looked familiar, and when we [opened] it [we] saw my brother’s face on the ID,” Jenifer Medina wrote.

Unfortunately Cesar passed away and Jenifer wrote “I just knew I wanted to say my last goodbyes to Andy after they cleaned him up,” she said. “And tell him how much I love him.”

She continued “Andy had so many goals for his future and was taken from all of us too soon.”

19-year-old Andrew Michaels was arrested in connection with the incident.
