Met Éireann have increased their Status Yellow alert yesterday evening to a Status Orange alert this morning as plummeting temperatures and the threat of snow continues.
Freezing temperatures across the country has seen snow fall in a number of counties.
Motorists and pedestrians are once more being warned to take extra care this morning and into the afternoon as there is a danger of black ice.
The national forecaster has predicted a “bitterly cold” day, with hail, sleet and snow showers in most areas.
The places expected to be most affected by snow include Munster, Connacht and parts of Ulster.
