A man who burnt a toddler’s face with a blow torch has been jailed for 20 months.
RTÉ News reports that the man, 30-year-old Darren Brennan, was high on magic mushrooms when he approached a buggy outside a home in Dublin and burned the face of a toddler with a mini blow torch.
Two toddlers had been strapped into the buggy in their drive way last September when Brennan approached and burned one of their cheeks with the torch.
Brennan pleaded guilty to one count of assault causing harm to the two-year-old toddler.
In a victim impact statement, the boy’s parents said that “everything turned dark” when their son was harmed. “It is every parent’s worst nightmare, to see their children in pain,” the boy’s mother said.
She added that her son is traumatised and that he has trouble sleeping.
Brennan has been sentenced to 20 months in prison.
