A 21-year-old man is expected to appear before Glasgow Sheriff Court today charged in connection with the death of 24-year-old Irish student, Karen Buckley.
Karen went missing in Glasgow following a night out with friends on Saturday night. The alarm was raised on Sunday by her friends when she failed to return home.
A four-day search took place before the remains of the Cork student were found on a farm north of Glasgow.
The man will appear before a private hearing at the court.
Her father John Buckley released a statement on Wednesday evening.
“Marian and I, together with our sons Brendan, Kieran, and Damian are absolutely heartbroken,” it read.
“Karen was our only daughter, cherished by her family and loved by her friends. She was an outgoing girl who travelled the world, where she met lots of people and thoroughly enjoyed her life.
“We will miss her terribly.”
Almost €70,000 has been raised through an online fundraising campaign which was set up to help to cover the family’s travel and expenses while in Scotland.
A memorial has been planned for Ms. Buckley this evening. It will be held at St. George’s Square.
