Important info if you were planning on taking the Luas today.
Strike action is under way by Luas drivers today meaning that there will be no trams running. Both the red and green lines are out of action which will affect approximately 90,000 passengers.
Traffic delays are expected in Dublin City today as a result.
According to RTÉ, Transdev, who operate the Luas, has threatened to impose pay cuts of 10% from tomorrow if the industrial action continues.
Siptu Luas shop steward Richard McCarthy spoke to The Irish Times about the latest development in the ongoing dispute saying:
“The company are threatening an illegal move to reduce drivers salary by 10 per cent which is clearly in breach of employment legislation and in breach of our contracts of employment.
“The company has levied unsubstantiated allegations at the driver grade for part performing on our contract of employment, when we are in fact strictly adhering to it in its entirety.
“Any attempt to reduce wages will be considered a willful breach of employment legislation”.
The Luas drivers are due to meet today to discuss the situation.
