Recruitment for enumerators for the 2016 Census kicks off this morning from 9 am, with more than 4,500 applicants required to fill roles.

The 2016 Census is due to commence on Sunday, April 24th, with the part-time positions lasting a 10-week period.

According to The Irish Times, enumerators can earn approximately €2,400 for the part-time role, which includes delivering and collecting some of the 2.3million forms from Irish households over the time of the Census.

Enumerators are paid a fixed fee for the delivery and collection of forms, as well as a fixed allowance for training, working Sundays and travel expenses.

The only pre-requirement is that all enumerators need to be signed-up officers of statistics, as this forbids them from divulging any information obtained as part of their official duties.

Speaking to the Irish Times, head statistician at the Central Statistics Office Deirdre Cullen said: “demand for these posts is always incredibly high”.

The application process opens from 9am this Tuesday morning to Friday, January 8th.
