It’s being reported that convicted criminal John Gilligan has fled the country after being discharged from hospital.
Two weeks ago the former gang boss was shot four times while he was attending a family christening in Dublin.
He was discharged from James Connolly Memorial Hospital last night and reportedly left Ireland by ferry escorted by armed Gardaí to the terminal in Dublin Port.
A photograph by the Irish Independent shows Gilligan in a wheelchair being brought out of the hospital in a wheelchair. He’s dressed in black with a flat cap and carrying a plastic Dunnes Stores bag on his lap.
Gilligan’s departure from Ireland comes just in the wake of the death of Stephen “Dougie” Moran, who was a known associate of his – he was shot dead in Lucan last weekend.
