For those who were holding out for a white Christmas, it looks like your snowfall could still happen (just a few weeks late).

It’s time to wrap up, as Met Eireann has issued Status Yellow snow and ice warnings for most of the country, with the forecasting agency warning that:

“wintry showers, some of which will be thundery, spreading east tonight are likely to give a covering of snow of up to 3cm in places” in Connacht, Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal, Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick and Tipperary.

It is also expected that icy conditions will affect any locations not affected by snow showers, with most of the snowfall expected during the day on Tuesday and on Tuesday night.

Leinster, Monaghan and Waterford have been issued a separate warning, with temperatures below freezing expecting to cause some icy stretches with some snowfall:

“Temperatures below freezing will cause icy stretches to form tonight on any damp and untreated surfaces. Some snow flurries are likely to occur locally also.

“Snow showers during Tuesday and Tuesday night may give accumulations of up to 3cm in places.”

The warning is in place from this evening until 8am on Wednesday morning.
