An Italian teenager has died after her hair became tangled in the steering wheel of her car, causing it to crash into another vehicle.
Caterina Alzetta (19) was apparently driving through the northern town of Montereale Valcellina with her brother Pietro (21) when the accident occurred. Both of them were taken to hospital where Caterina later died of her injuries.
According to her brother Pietro, who survived the crash and had to be cut free from the wreckage, Caterina’s hair became tangled in the steering wheel when she wound down the window which caused her locks to fly around. When she tried to pull it free, the car veered into oncoming traffic.
Her father Michele, who is the head of the local ambulance emergency rescue service, said: “My daughter’s hair was thick and long, but tragically her hair got caught in the steering wheel, and as we understand it when she made a sudden movement of the head it pulled on the steering wheel”.
The two men in the other vehicle, brothers aged 42 and 47, were also taken to hospital following the accident. They are expected to recover.

Caterina Alzetta (19) passed away from her injuries.
