Gardaí are seeking information surrounding the death of taxi driver Martin Mulligan.
Mulligan was found on the side of an isolated road in Kilcurry, Co. Louth.
It is thought that the 53-year-old received the injuries whilst chasing more than one assailant who tried to flee from his taxi.
The possibility that the attackers fled to Northern Ireland is being examined and detectives have sought the help of the PSNI in their murder investigation.
Mulligan, from Lower Point Road, Dundalk, is survived by his wife Grainne, and his two daughters, Sharon and Shauna.
