Irish nanny, Aisling Brady McCarthy, has been cleared of murder in a decision announced today.
Ms McCarthy, who is originally from Cavan, was charged with the murder of one-year-old Rehma Sabir, the baby girl she had been looking after.
According to numerous sources, an initial post-mortem exam showed that the child had died as a result of complications from blunt force head injuries.
However, prosecutors announced today that the decision had been reversed after new findings established that the child’s cause of death was “undetermined”.
Sky News reports that Ms McCarthy worked for Rehma’s parents for six months and at this time, she living illegally in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Her lawyers have previously claimed that the prosecution did not have enough evidence to charge her with murder.
She entered a not guilty plea and was granted provisional release on bail earlier this year.
It has not yet been announced if Ms McCarthy will be deported from the US as she has now been cleared of the murder charge.
