He said an emotional goodbye to his Irish rugby career at the weekend but it looks like Brian O’Driscoll’s place in history is to be confirmed when he receives the Freedom of Dublin City this weekend.
It is being reported this afternoon that the athlete will accept the honour in a special ceremony at the Mansion House in Dublin on Saturday from Lord Mayor of Dublin Oisin Quinn, alongside social activist Fr Peter McVerry who will also be made a Freeman of Dublin.
The Freedom of the City acknowledges the contribution of people to the life of the capital and has previously been awarded to 76 people. Activist Aung San Suu Kyi accepted her award last year, as she was under house arrest when first bestowed with the honour.
