UPDATE: The Five Victims Of The Buncrana Pier Tragedy Have Been Identified

UPDATE: The five victims of the Buncrana tragedy have been named.

Sean McGrotty (49), his young sons Mark (12) and Evan (8), his mother-in-law Ruth Daniels (59) and her daughter Jodi Lee Daniels (14) were killed when the car they were travelling in slipped off the jetty at Buncrana last night.

Belfast Live reports that the funerals will take place Thursday morning at the Holy Family parish church in Ballymagroarty in Derry.

 

A Garda investigation has been launched after a car slipped off Buncrana pier in Donegal last night, leaving five people dead.

The Irish Times reports that the victims, who have not yet been named, were from the Derry area.

A two-month-old baby girl was rescued by a bystander who swam into the water and managed to grab the child before the car sank.

Sadly, a man, woman and three children lost their lives when the Audi Q7 left the road at about 7:30 pm last night.

Martin McGuiness, Deputy First Minister of Northern Ireland is one of the many people to express condolences at the unspeakable tragedy.

Taking to Twitter, he wrote: “Very sad news of fatalities in an incident at Buncrana Pier tonight. Thoughts are with relatives of those involved & rescue services”.
