Last night sleep was a luxury for the majority of the country as a storm hit Ireland, leaving many homes without power and a number of services disrupted this morning.

ESB are reporting that some 6,000 homes, mainly in Munster and Leinster, are without power. They are currently working on fixing the faults and have asked people to contact them immediately regarding emergencies including fallen wires.

Rail services have been affected as well. Northside DART and Northern Commuter services have been disrupted while there are delays to the Southside DART Services.

AA Roadwatch are also urging drivers to take extra care this morning due to the risk of flooding and fallen trees.

As for the weather, Met Éireann have predicted strong winds with sunny spells and scattered showers today. Highest temperatures are expected to be around 11 to 14 degrees Celsius but these will drop to between 1 and 4 degrees tonight.
