A couple who were left stranded in America and hit with a £130,000 medical bill after the premature arrival of their baby have had some good news this week.

According to The Mirror, Katie Amos and Lee Johnston have been told that they will not have to pay for their newborn son’s medical care.

There were fears for the new parents after baby Dax arrived 11 weeks early and the couple were hit with an enormous bill by the New York hospital where he was delivered.

According to The Guardian, a statement from the hospital read: “Lenox Hill Hopsital continues to work with the insurance carrier regarding payment approvals for all services rendered by the hospital, anesthesia and physician services from their insurance carrier.

“We will ensure that there will be no financial impact to the family,” it continued.

“In addition, our staff has been going above and beyond to ease the overall experience for the family, from arranging a place to live for the duration of their stay to helping them communicate with their family in the UK.”

A fundraising page had already raised over seven thousand pounds for the couple.
