Gardaí confirm investigation into alleged rape in Tralee hospital

Gardaí have this morning confirmed tat they are investigating an allegation that a female patient was raped while in the care of medical professionals at the private Bon Secours Hospital in Tralee, Co Kerry.

The alleged incident occurred earlier this month. According to RTÉ, part of the hospital was sealed off and declared a crime scene. The alleged victim was examined at a specialist assault unit at a hospital in Cork and has been offered counselling.

The woman is in her 50s.

According to The Mirror, the woman had undergone a procedure at the hospital was understood to be in a changing room when the incident took place. She alleges that a medic entered the room and raped her.

CCTV footage from the hospital is being examined as part of the investigation, although it is believed that the room where the alleged rape took place was not covered by CCTV.

The hospital staff were unable to make comment due to ongoing investigations by the Gardaí.
