Gardaí have asked the public to avoid areas like Powerscourt and Glendalough over social distancing concerns.
Reports of heavy traffic around the aforementioned areas, as well as Sally Gap and Enniskerry, have been rife today, most likely due to the good whether.
Gardaí have warned people against travelling to these populated areas due to the spread of the coronavirus.
“Gardaí in Wicklow are appealing to the public to PLEASE avoid the areas of Powerscourt, Sally Gap, Glendalough and Enniskerry,” they said today.
“Traffic is extremely heavy. We want to remind everyone we are in a crucial phase in which Social Distancing is vital.”
Carparks at Glendalough, and Glenbarrow, Slieve Bloom Mountains were closed today in a bid to stop people from travelling.
Both sides of Sally Gap were also later closed to vehicles.
“Please remember to practise #SocialDistancing when out and about today and avoid locations that may attract large groups of people,” said An Garda Síochána.
To practice good social distancing, you must stay at least two metres away from other people at all times.
Densely populated areas of supermarkets, parks, or roads should be avoided – or returned to once foot traffic has lessened considerably.
Ideally, people should not be leaving their homes for anything other than essential activities.
