Four people have been sentenced to jail time after dry-shaving and attempting to burn a woman’s hair, as she lay unconscious.

Three men and a woman appeared in Antrim Crown Court in relation to the incident that took place in a Ballymena flat in May 2013.

Paul Balmer, Alister Hamilton and Nathan Telford also slapped the victim while carrying out the act which Judge Donna McColgan described as an “appalling act of degradation”.

The entire episode was filmed by 22-year-old Paula Wilson and showed the trio using disposable razors to shave the “extremely vulnerable” victim’s eyebrows before dry-shaving her head.

“No point on going easy on her, we can’t send her away with a poor haircut,” one man is heard saying in the footage that lasts approximately 10 minutes.

“Will we just shave the whole head?” he continues. “I am a democratic sort of person, if you want to baldy her, baldy her.”

The men also attempted to set the woman’s hair on fire.

According to UTV News 42-year-old Balmer, a heroin addict who previously denied any involvement, was handed a five-year sentence.

Hamilton (23) received a 36-month sentence while Telford, also 23, got 40 months. Wilson was handed a 32-month sentence, half of which will be spent in custody.
