There was sad news for Galwegians this week with confirmation that local legend Madam Bridget has passed away.
The fortune teller has been a fixture in Galway City for decades, plying her trade at a small post outside Supermac’s in Eyre Square.
According to the Galway Advertiser, she passed away last weekend and the news has sparked a huge response online, with many paying tribute to one of the city’s true characters.

@eamonambrose I remember her hand-written sign at Galway Races once: “Madam Bridget and her Crystal Bull”. The ‘a’ in ball came out wrong.
