Ed Sheeran’s Cork concerts are in jeopardy following disagreement

A disagreement over the funding of lighting upgrades at Páirc Uí Chaoimh could impact Ed Sheeran’s Cork concert dates.

According to the Irish Examiner, Fianna Fáil councillor Terry Shannon says that Cork’s County Board have yet to pay for the upgrade for public lighting:

“They haven’t paid up. It’s as simple as that, and it was one of the conditions of their planning.

They need to get the finger out and get on with it, especially with the Ed Sheeran concerts coming down the tracks.”

The GAA had offered to pay part of the fee for the completion, but Cork City Council wanted a significantly higher amount.

While there is a long way to go until Ed’s May 4 concert, there has been some doubt cast over it. The lighting that is needed allows for a safe exit for pedestrians from the stadium.

Commenting on what has been done until there is a resolution, stadium manager Bob Ryan said:

“We hired 13 mobile lighting towers for the various approach roads at the weekend. We did the best we could. I would hope that we can resolve the issue in the coming weeks.”
