A 15-year-old girl, whose identity cannot be revealed because of her age, has appeared in court charged with the murder of Katie Rough (7).
According to The Mirror, the court heard how the teenager, who has also been charged with possession of an offensive weapon, called 999 to say that Katie was dead but that she did not know where she was.
It’s thought that the girl, who was in a distressed state, spoke to two members of the public and waited at their home until police arrived.
After speaking to the teenager, police traced Katie to a football field in the area of Woofthorpe, York and immediately alerted emergency services.
It has been reported that Katie was found with “significant lacerations” to her neck and chest and she passed away in hospital a short time later.
It’s believed that North Yorkshire Police had also received a call from Katie’s mother, Alison Rough, to say her daughter had been missing for 45 minutes.
The teenager is due to appear in Leeds Crown Court tomorrow.
