We know it can be frustrating to miss the boarding call for your flight but we definitely wouldn’t recommend following the example of this Italian couple.
Matteo Clementi (26) and his girlfriend Enrica Apollonio (23) were arrested at Malta’s Valletta airport recently after taking extreme measures to ensure they didn’t miss their flight home to Italy.
According to The Sunday World, the couple were denied permission to board the flight as the gate had closed so decided to break through another unattended gate and run on to the tarmac.
The pair attempted to flag down the plane, which had already started its engines and was about to travel towards the runway.
Clementi and Apollonio were then arrested and appeared in court yesterday, where they said they had been in a hurry to get home to celebrate the 23-year-old’s birthday.
Despite facing up to two years in jail, they escaped a custodial sentence and were instead were given a fine of €2,000.
