Fears for missing Barry Corcoran’s welfare are escalating, following the discovery of a dismembered body in a suitcase today.

The body was discovered in the Grand Canal at Ardclough Village Co. Kildare at around 3:30pm today, when passersby spotted the suitcase and opened it.

The discovery was made close to the area Gardai searched for Barry Corcoran, who went missing last summer.

Dad-of-one Mr. Corcoran was last seen on the Cremona Road, Ballyfermot, on the night of Monday, July 6.

It was reported that a series of sinister letters were received by the authorities in the wake of his disappearance.

According to independent.ie, just a torso was found in the suitcase.

Earlier, Gardai released the following statement:

“Gardai in Leixlip are investigating the discovery of a body in a container, in the canal at Ardclough Village, Co. Kildare this afternoon, Saturday 16th January, 2016 at approximately 3.30p.m.

“The scene is currently preserved pending a technical examination and the body remains at the scene. The Office of the State Pathologist has been notified.”
