Casualty actress Rebekah Gibbs has died at the age of 41 following a long battle with cancer.

Rebekah’s agent confirmed the sad news on Twitter on Tuesday evening. Rebekah appeared in over 100 episodes of the hit show where she played paramedic Nina Farr between 2004 and 2006.

However, just before giving birth to her daughter Gigi in 2008, Rebekah found a lump on her breast and was later diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer.

Best known for her role as Nina on the hit show, Rebekah also appeared in The Bill and wrote a weekly column in the Daily Mirror where she revealed how devastating it had been to receive the news.

“I close my eyes, and I am right back there, in front of the TV, feeling petrified as I desperately run my finger above my baby bump and under my breast, willing the lump to disappear,” she said. “That crushing fear has stayed with me. It’s with me every day.”

In April 2013, Rebekah was given a five year all-clear from cancer, however in August she was diagnosed with two brain tumours following a seizure while she was holidaying in Devon.

“Within an hour I was in A&E. I was quickly diagnosed with two brain tumours, plus one in the neck and a lesion on my lung.”

A number of her former co-workers have taken to Twitter to express their sadness at the news. James Redmond, who starred with Rebekah in Casualty said: “So sad to hear lovely Rebekah Gibbs has passed away. She lit up every room with her smile and positivity. RIP.”

Coronation Street actress Hayley Tamaddon along with many of Rebekah’s fans also tweeted about the news.
