An investigation is underway following the discovery of a body in Leixlip today.
The body was found in a container in a canal in at Ardclough Village, Co. Kildare at about 3:30pm today.
According to the Irish Independent, passersby stopped when they saw the container and opened it to discover the body.
It is reported that the container is a suitcase.
The body remains at the scene which is currently preserved pending a technical examination.
A Garda spokesperson said: “Gardai in Leixlip are investigating the discovery of a body in a container, in the canal at Ardclough Village, Co. Kildare this afternoon, Saturday 16th January, 2016 at approximately 3.30p.m.
“The scene is currently preserved pending a technical examination and the body remains at the scene. The Office of the State Pathologist has been notified.”
