There will be no more bare breasts seen in the Irish Sun on Page Three.
The Irish edition of the tabloid has said “goodbye” to the naked breasts and have replaced it with images of women in bikinis and general swimwear.
Speaking to the Irish Times, editor of the tabloid Paul Clarkson said that; “Page 3 is a hugely popular pillar of the Sun in the UK and part of a package of great journalism which engages, entertains and informs in equal measure.”
“In the Irish Sun we strive to share the qualities that make the newspaper great in print and digital, but we also strive to cater for our own readers’ needs and reflect the cultural differences in Ireland.”
According to the Irish Times, a few people have called into the tabloid’s offices and enquiring about the change – only one person has complained.
However, campaigners for the UK version of the paper are rallying support and are calling for the page to be disbanded completely as they believe it’s sexist and degrading towards women.
