Our options for summer fun are fast depleting.
Sure Irish beaches have never been the most exotic locations but nothing says summer quite like a sandy ham sandwich and a freezing cold dip in the sea.
Sadly our beaches are being served with no swim orders.
Earlier this week, four Dublin beaches were closed as Fingal Mayor David O’Connor said that there’s a “major problem” with sewage pumps in the area.
Beaches in Rush, Balbriggan, Skerries and Loughshinny were closed.
Now the beautiful Velvet Strand Beach at Portmarnock. has been issued a ‘no swim’ warning.
According to Dublin Live, the notice was issued by Fingal County Council as a precautionary measure following an overflow at the Portmarnock Strand Pumping Station which was caused by a technical issue.
The ‘Do Not Swim’ notice will be in place until Monday at the earliest, pending the results of water sampling tests.
